Mayor's Personal Award, 2012
In his final duty as Mayor, Councillor Bill Dowling awarded the re-instigated Mayor’s Personal Award, to two well deserving residents of Stratford who work tirelessly for the good of the community.
Before the Mayor Making Ceremony at the Town Hall on Thursday, Bill paid tribute to Lindsey Allwork, founder of the Buzz Café and Cis Bolt, a long standing volunteer from Myton Hospice, who were both presented with a trophy salver and flowers.
The Mayor advised that it had been a difficult decision, as there had been a great many worthy nominees. He took into consideration, but eventually chose not to base his final decision on the number of votes cast for a single individual, primarily because they were affiliated to an organisation which receives national recognition, such as the scout movement, cadet forces and the Royal British Legion. Neither did he choose to recognise projects originally instigated by Council.
‘I was looking for the individual ‘un-sung hero’, said the Mayor, and had ‘no hesitation in recognising the amazing work undertaken by Lindsey Allwork, and Cis Bolton. There are many words or phrases I could use to describe my experience as Mayor, but suffice to say that perhaps the most important is humbling. The work that is done behind the scenes in this town is incredible, and I shall always be grateful that my position has enabled me to see just a little of what goes on’.

CIVIL WEDDINGS AT THE TOWN HALL
The Town Hall, situated in the very heart of this delightful market town is a very beautiful building, housing not only the Town Council but providing a romantic venue for civil weddings.
This is indeed an impressive and memorable room to hold a civil ceremony. A red carpeted dais at one end of the room provides a focal point for the registrar to conduct the wedding and the room can be extended to incorporate the Committee Room which will allow for over 100 seated guests in theatre style.
