Joy (Sylvia Joyce) Seaman
Councillor Joy Seaman was born and educated in Bristol. She worked for the Co-operative Insurance Society and by way of ‘an office romance’ met and married her husband Vince, also a Town Councillor until his sudden death in 2009. Married for over 48 years, Joy has three children and six grandchildren.
Career History
Joy started in a secretarial capacity, changed to the retail sector as a demonstrator and beauty consultant and then had ‘time out’ to raise a family. After several house moves due to her husband’s occupation she had a re-think about a future career, and in her 40’s took a teachers’ qualification and taught in both College and local Warwickshire senior schools for over 20 years, finally retiring from supply teaching in 2005. |

Community Interests Joy was proud to be Mayoress of Stratford-upon-Avon in May 2002. The insight into Town Council affairs gave her the wish to become a Councillor and she now serves on the General Purposes and Mayoral & Protocol committees and the Heritage Open Days sub-committee.
She has enjoyed voluntary work for the National Trust at Charlecote Park for several years, helped out at the Shakespeare Trust and sold Christmas cards for charitable causes.
Leisure Activities
Joy in on the committee of the local Gilbert & Sullivan Society and has been a member for over 20 years. She also sings with the Wellesbourne Choral Society and is very much involved with the local ‘am-dram’ scene.
A member of the Inner Wheel Club of Stratford-upon-Avon since 1990, she was President in 2000 and Chairman in 2009.
Joy also belongs to the Bridgetown Womens’ Institute as their Honorary Secretary.
Finally, she tries to keep fit by swimming, attending aerobic chasses at a local health club, gardening and grandchildren duties.
