Juliet Dorothy Short

Juliet was born and bred in Stratford and was educated at Stratford High School, Warwickshire College and Bath University.

She married John in 1979 and has grown-up twins, Scott and Kerry.

Career History:
Juliet was Deputy Head of Brandwood School, Birmingham prior to leaving full time employment to bring up the twins and start her own successful businesses in Stratford and surrounding area.

She is currently Principal of her dance company Mezzoforte and is proud that she had pupils representing the Midlands on “Come Dancing” on three consecutive years and “Britain’s Got Talent” finalists.  Cllr Short is an international adjudicator and examiner of dance for the United Kingdom Alliance.

Juliet taught and lectured on textiles and technology and sport studies as a supply teacher since leaving full-time teaching.  She still trains pupils for BTEC National Diplomas in Performing Arts Dance.

Community Interests:
Cllr Short was appointed Senior Councillor in 2010 having been successfully returned at the Parish Election in May.  Juliet is the Lead Ward Member for the Avenue & New Town Ward to the Community Forum and serves on the Town Council’s Planning Consultative and General Purposes Committees as well as being a member of four sub-committees; the Allotment Working Party, The Emergency Plan Working Group, Sustainability Stratford and Town Hall (Maintenance) Working Party.
 
Juliet was delighted to become Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon in 2000.  She also served as a District Councillor from 2000 to 2008 and became Chairman of the District Council in 2005/2006.  She is one of the three Council appointees to the Town Trust. 

A founder member of BarD Watch, Juliet received an “Oyster” award from the National Lottery for community involvement in crime prevention.

Leisure Activities
Juliet much enjoys reading historical romances, is passionate about music and loves all forms of theatre, especially dance.
