Title - Welcome to the Stratford upon Avon Town Council

Doreen Judy Thomas (known as Judy)

Born in Wellington, now Telford Shropshire in 1944, Councillor Doreen Judy Thomas, known as Judy, has six siblings, two brothers, two sisters and two half sisters.

Judy and her husband have five children between them, multiple grandchildren and are also proud great-grandparents.

Career History:
Councillor Thomas left school at fifteen and worked at Chad Valley before moving to Hereford to work on a farm where she met his first husband.  In 1979 she moved to Stratford-upon-Avon with her second husband, Clive, also a Town and District Councillor, and together they ran a successful local guest house.  Their welcoming accommodation was renowned for its large collection of teddy bears and guests came from all over the world to view the almost unrivalled collection.  Judy and Clive are still in touch with many of the guests who have become personal friends over the years.

The guest house was sold a number of years ago, and Judy and her protracted family of hundreds of bears, five cats, one Chihuahua and a husband moved to Blue Cap Road.

Judy now works for Tesco, a job which she loves for being sociable by nature, it awards her the opportunity of meeting so many different people.

Community Interests:
Having supported Clive as Mayoress in 2003, Judy already knew much of the machinations of Council and was delighted and proud to be elected to serve alongside her husband in 2010.  Judy sits on the Mayoral & Protocol Committee and also serves on Planning Consultative Committee.

She became a member of St John Ambulance, another interest she shares with her husband, and was appointed Superintendent in Charge of the ladies division which she held for a number of year and was awarded her long service medal.  A highlight of her experiences with St John was to cover the first aid post at the Vatican in Rome where she was presented to the Pope.  Judy also provided first aid cover when Pope John Paul visited Coventry.

As a means of raising money for charity, Judy started the ‘Teddy Bear Talk Club’. Many teddy bears ‘set off for Japan’ which raised considerable funds to aid victims of the Kobi earthquake.

Leisure Activities
Apart from collecting teddy bears, Judy has many hobbies.  She knits, crochets, makes cakes, reads, gardens and then finds time to decorate when necessary.  Judy is very fond of Art Deco and Retro and therefore loves her little Fiat 500!

A great music devotee from classical to pop, she remains very much a Queen fan.  Both Clive and Judy love to travel and have visited many countries throughout the world.
