William Arthur Lowe
Councillor William Lowe, known as Bill is married to Anne. They have four children and four grandchildren; Thomas, Louise, Lydia and Isobel. Bill and Anne lived in Stratford-upon-Avon for five years during the 70’s, having returned in 1988 they have lived here ever since.
Career History:
Councillor Lowe has worked in local government since 1956 covering horticulture, landscape gardening, engineering and leisure centre operations.
Community Interests:
Bill was elected Mayor at Mayor Making 2005 and served until 18 May, 2006. Together with Anne, he raised a considerable amount of money for his chosen charities; the Mayor’s Fund and Stratford Renal Unit, as well as committing money to other charities brought to his immediate attention whilst Mayor. |

Councillor Lowe currently serves on the Finance & Scrutiny Committee and Planning Consultative Committee. He also serves on two Council working parties; Allotments and Town Hall Maintenance.
He is on the Quality Status accreditation panel for the National Association of Local Councils and currently serves as the Warwickshire Association of Local Councils Chairman until 2010.
During his seven years service on Stratford-on-Avon District Council which he joined in 1996, Cllr Lowe chaired the Avon Area Planning Committee.
A keen horticulturalist he much enjoyed his position as judge for the Heart of England in Bloom.

Previously, Cllr Lowe worked assisting coal miners recover from mining accidents. He has worked for the Physically Handicapped Able Bodied organisation as co-ordinator, enjoyed various activities and challenges as a youth leader and has set up clubs and activities for people with mental and physical disabilities in various districts.
Leisure Activities
In the past, Bill participated in swimming and water polo events at national level and became a swimming coach and lifeguard. He also played Rugby Union up to County Trial Level. Nowadays, the little leisure time available still incorporates his love of swimming, but he prefers to devote more time to his horticultural interests and much enjoys the company of his grandchildren. |
