Clive Thomas
Councillor Clive Thomas has lived in Stratford-upon-Avon since 1979, being born in London and raised, as an only child, in Hereford where he was educated at the grammar school.
Clive married Judy in 1979 in Stratford-upon-Avon. Both having been married before, they share five children from their previous marriages and eight grandchildren.
Joining the Town Council in 1999, Councillor Thomas was proud and honoured to be appointed Mayor in May, 2003 which he describes as a most rewarding and enjoyable experience.
Career History:
Clive has spent the whole of his working life in the Ambulance Service. An Ambulance-man/Paramedic for 39 years, he has also served for 50 years with St John Ambulance, running the local division for 20 years he is an officer and brother of the order and is now Chairman of the Stratford-upon-Avon and District Ambulance Association.

Together with his wife Judy he ran a successful guest house in Grove Road for many years and was Vice Chairman of the Hotel & Caterers Association for 10 years. He now works part time as a self-employed taxi driver.
Community Interests:
Councillor Thomas is Deputy Chairman of the Town Council’s Planning Consultative Committee, and serves on the General Purposes Committee as well as two Sub-Committees.
He was elected to Stratford-on-Avon District Council in 2002 but lost his seat in 2007.
Clive is concerned with many local activities but is particularly interested in the Royal British Legion, of which he is a member. Clive’s extremely enlightening and well attended “Stratford at War” Exhibition, which is of significance to young and old alike is held every other year at the Town Hall.
Whilst Mayor, Clive was instigative in the Stratford-upon-Avon ATC Corp of Drums, which can now be seen marching the streets of Stratford. He is now Chairman of its Civilian Committee.
In general, he has been a founder member of Stratford Youth Sports and BARd Watch, of which he is now President, both receive his unstinting support.
Leisure Activities
Vintage and classic cars have always been of interest and Clive is a Member of the MG Club and the proud owner of a 1966 MGB GT in British Racing Green.
Teddy Bears are not just an interest but a passion for both Clive and Judy. What they haven’t got depicting a teddy bear, quite frankly isn’t worth having!
They enjoy holidays and have a time share abroad. Whilst at home, when he isn’t working and fulfilling his obligations as a Town and District Councillor, Clive can be found having a quiet pint in the Legion and socialising with his friends and family. |
